Baby Daygowns I:
Mildred Gould has been sewing children's clothes for over
fifty years, but her first love is sewing
daygowns-special creations with tiny tucks, lace
insertions and edging, and delicate hand embroidery. In
this book , Mildred is sharing samples of her designs as
well as some of her unique methods for designing and
creating these special daygowns. Her machine sewing
techniques are fast and easy and are especially helpful
to the beginner seamstress. For those of you that are
handsewing enthusiasts, her patterns and designs may be
adapted to French handsewing techniques. These unique
designs may be used to create your special baby's
wardrobe or to make a quick and inexpensive (but very
special) shower or baby gift. |

Baby Daygowns II:
Brings you more daygown designs by Mildred Gould. These
unique daygown designs features a front button closing.
As in Baby Daygowns, Book I, instructions for various
design guidelines and construction techniques make it
possible for you to create your own daygown designs, as
well as sew the designs presented in this book. The
designs, variations, and guidelines in book II, combined
with those included in Book I, provide a limitless
opportunity to create numerous unique daygown designs. As
in Book I, the construction techniques in Book II are
fast and easy and the difficulty of the designs range
from those suitable for a beginner seamstress to those
more suitable for the experienced seamstress. |

Baby Daygowns III:
Brings you what is perhaps the fastest and easiest of all
daygown designs-the raglan sleeve daygown. The simple
raglan sleeve daygown designs are ideal for quick-to-sew
baby gifts. The design of the raglan sleeve itself makes
it an easier daygown to sew and it makes dressing the
baby easier. Raglan sleeve daygown designs are suitable
for both infant girls and infant boys. A variety of front
button closings, including those found in Baby Daygowns,
Book II, and the variety of sleeve styles included in all
three daygown books, provide yet another opportunity to
design and create unique and special daygowns. Color
variations using pink, blue, or yellow embroidery or bias
bindings on a white daygown expand this opportunity. A
very special smocked variation of the raglan sleeve
daygown has been include in Book III. |

Baby Daygowns IV: Book
IV brings you some of the prettiest and easiest daygowns
you may ever sew. The raglan sleeve design is easy to
sew. Combine this design feature with the easy back
closings presented in this book, and you have easy baby
projects and easy baby gifts. A wide variety of daygowns
may be made for infant girls or for infant boys. Smocking
designs include traditional English smocking, smocking
combined with silk ribbon embroidery, smocking combined
with pearls, and character smocking. This book presents
basic instructions along with specific instructions for
variations and techniques. You will frequently be
instructed to refer to a particular section for
techniques which are used throughout the book. Use the
"Table of Contents" to locate references quickly and
easily. I hope you will find many hours of joy and
pleasure sewing these unique designs and using the wide
range of pattern sizes for infants and baby dolls. |

Baby Daygowns V:
Baby Daygowns, Book V includes daygown variations which
appear to be specifically gender-suited. The smocked
variations have sleeve and neckline treatments that
some people may classify as feminine - too lacey for an
infant boy. The same is true for the two "boy"
daygowns, the designs that are simple and tailored.
However, any of the neckline, sleeve and hemline
treatments may be interchanged to create dozens of
daygown variations. That is the joy of the "Baby
Daygowns" series - and that joy is your own creativity.
The sacque length may be used on any of the daygowns
presented. If you have sewn any of the daygowns from previous books in the series, you may notice that the Yoke daygown "seems" larger. The basic fit is the exact same as the other patterns, hilt the fullness of the skirt will make it seem larger: A five-six pound preemie pattern has been added for that reason. It is probably suitable for many lower birth weight babies that are born today. As always the sleeve, neckline, and hemline variations from the other books in the Baby Daygowns series can be interchanged with these designs so that your creativity is almost limitless. Enjoy! |

Baby Daygowns VI: Baby
Daygowns, Book VI features yoke daygown designs from the
1920's. My father was born in 1920 and I have photographs
of him, as well as several of my uncles, in white
daygowns with pintucks, embroidery, and pretty lace
edging. These designs can be as varied as the laces that
are chosen to complete them. They offer you an
opportunity to use bits and pieces of trims that you have
left over from other projects, as well as pieces from
antique garments you may have that are not in usable
condition. An interesting three-inch strip of insertion
can be centered in the yoke, with compatible trims chosen
to complete other facets of the design. If you have sewn any of the daygowns from previous books in the series, you may notice that the yoke daygown "seems" larger. The basic fit is the exact same as the other patterns, but the fullness of the skirt will make it seem larger. A five-six pound preemie pattern has been added for that reason. It is probably suitable for many lower birth-weight babies that are born today. As always, the sleeve, neckline, and hemline variations from the other books in the Baby Daygowns series can be interchanged with these designs so that your creativity is almost limitless. Enjoy! - Nancy Coburn |

Baby Daygowns VII: Baby
Daygowns, Book VII is designed to provide a creative
outlet for people who have an embroidery machine or who
enjoy hand embroidery, but who may or may not enjoy the
detail of heirloom sewing. While the designs may
certainly be adapted to heirloom sewing by machine or by
hand, the instructions in the book purposely omit
detailed instructions for heirloom sewing. The beginning
seamstress who is excited about creating daygowns using
an embroidery machine will not find these instructions
frustrating. Detailed instructions for using cording are
included. Other trims are simply hand whipped to a
finished edge. The focus of the embellishment will be on
the embroidery itself. The depth of the yoke on the pattern in this book is deeper than the yoke in books V and VI. However, the fit through the shoulder and neckline is exactly the same, allowing you to interchange the sleeve variations and neckline treatments found in other books in the daygowns series. The center front pleat found on one variation in this book showcases embroidery on the skirt by drawing the skirt fullness away from the center. The deeper yoke allows more space to complete embroidery designs. Baby Daygowns, Book VII is designed to be fun, with the construction fast and easy. Enjoy! - Nancy Coburn |

The Bonnet Collection, Book
I by Nancy Coburn. Almost no heirloom sewing
project is more fun than baby bonnets. The projects are
small enough to be completed in a relatively short period
of time and there is the potential to use a wide variety
of laces and trims, many from sewing box scraps or pieces
from antique garments. Then there is the joy of the end
result. Your handiwork encases a beautiful baby's
face. Each of the bonnet styles features construction with an open back casing. This is the easiest bonnet construction to sew and it affords a small growth allowance. The casing can be adjusted to fit the baby's head, both when it is first made, and as the baby grows. There are three bonnet styles - the smocked bonnet, the heirloom bonnet, and the handkerchief bonnet. You will not find baby bonnets like the ones presented in The Bonnet Collection, Book I widely available in baby clothing stores. You may find a few in heirloom sewing shops, but they are a rarity, making the designs you choose to make very special. Creativity is always a joyful, pleasant experience and knowing that you are making something unusual adds to the sense of fulfillment. We hope these designs bring you many days of such fulfillment. |
